Krogstad Ancestors and Meråker Kirke

The images above are of Meråker Church where great great grandfather John Jenson Krogstad, father Jens Johnson Krogstad is buried. Much of my recent research has been made possible by a new site launched a few years ago called findagrave.com

The website is a game changer for finding the location of graves. The continued addition of things on the internet continues to reveal more and more things. Someone has added a Wikipedia page for the church in the past few years since I last looked into this topic. Wikipedia, despite its flaws, remains one of the few places one can find information and links on many subjects. It is always a great place to start.

 

Jens was born  March 16, 1824 and died March 17, 1910. His wife Marit Rollfusdatter may be buried there as well. Meråker is very near the Swedish border 82 kilometers from Trondheim. Kråkstad is a municipality in the general area also. How they are all intertwined is my next mystery to solve.

John was born on June 28, 1858 and probably baptized in the church above on July 18, 1858. He married Marit Olsdatter Koming on November 17, 1882 at a place listed as Øvre Stjørdal. A listing on Familysearch.org states that: "Øvre Stjørdal clerical district contains parish records from the parishes Hegra with Flora and Okkelberg chapels and Meråker with Stordal and Kopperå chapels in Øvre Stjørdal clerical district. It was separated from Stjørdal clerical district in 1849. For earlier records see Stjørdal clerical district." My guess is that they were married in this same church. The parish resigister is available at this link I will wait to see what can be found in other sources first, since handwritten registers in another language can be very difficult.

I need to do more research on the background of the two Marit's. As Ancestry.com continues to add records, it becomes easier to find some of these things without having to travel.
