A Great Film

Goofy itinerant survivalist Bear Gryllis mentioned this amazing story while doing one of his survival shows in Siberia. The story sounded so compelling that I had to watch the movie. It tells the story of Clemens Forell, a German POW working in a Soviet gulag. Forell escapes and literally walks his way out of Siberia.
The 2002 German film tells the amazing story of Forell's escape and three year odyssey across some of the most rugged country in the world. It is a testament to human survival and will in the face of unbelievable conditions. As Far As My Feet Will Carry Me is the dramatized version of Forell's journey. Movies never provide the whole story and I am anxious to read the book by the same title.

There is another similar story called The Long Walk:The True Story of a Trek to Freedom that features a captured soldier from Poland. This one has not been made into a movie.
