John Deere as an Investment Model
I've never really thought of old tractors as a good investment that would increase in value over time. This book has changed my mind. John Deere two cylinders seem to be an investment that can appreciate at a surprising rate. The author doesn't touch on the fact that the baby boomers are the last generation to have a large numbers of their cohort to have had significant rural experiences. It might be this generation, with their money and nostalgia that is driving a boom that could collapse in a decade.
In addition to investment aspects, the book highlights things to look for when buying various two cylinder models. It is an interesting walk through the history of John Deere two cylinders and their numerous iterations. What makes this book a gem is the intermixing of history with modern restoration and collecting experiences. It is a compendium of interesting anecdotes and facts about the modern two cylinder subculture. If you are even thinking about buying an old "Johnny Popper", this is the first book that you should get.
I've always been partial to the classic and much coveted H. But this book has altered my thinking on this issue. The contemporaneous M may be a more affordable small tractor of comparable size.
