In the latest issue of the Science mag with an Anglo accent: New Scientist, there is a book review of an interesting new book titled The Coming Convergence
The author draws on past technological convergence to try to predict what unrelated technologies will come together in the future to create new forms. One example is the blending of computer technology and phone lines to create the Internet.
