An Icon

There are few authors who really stand out from the crowd and walk to their own beat. Authors whose prose is so filled with meaning and depth that it is always revealing something new. Kurt Vonnegut was such a writer. Vonnegut died earlier this week from complications from a fall. NPR's look at Vonnegut as always is a great resource to began the grieving process. I will miss his witty and intelligent voice.
Vonnegut was one of my favorite writers. He could be classified as one of the great social philosophers of the modern and post-modern world. His writing skillfully peeled away the absurdities of life in the post-World War Two age. His irreverent and witty personality and style were part of the charm of a deep thinker whose outlook was forged in the intellectual furnace of World War Two. I am going to have to revisit Vonnegut’s writing, as relevant today as ever.
